Trauma therapist , birder, and artist Pamela Lowell believes that hope is a great motivator.
“For me, hope is in community,” she told me. “If you just look around, people are doing good in the world.”
From her decades of work with people dealing with immense suffering, she’s found that nature can be an incredible balm.
As is true of many new(ish) birders, myself included, Pamela got more involved in birding during the 2020 pandemic. From her backyard, she had a clear view of a marsh where she watched Blue Herons, Belted Kingfishers, and Osprey.
But soon her reverie was drowned out by the sound of chainsaws. It turns out her sanctuary, land which she had been told was part of a 100-year-old Native treaty, was being clear cut. 100 acres torn down… for a parking lot.
Thus began Pamela’s foray into activism, birding, and seeking care for the Ospreys who now found themselves at great risk.
“Nature can also break your heart,” she said.
Join us for this special episode all about Ospreys, but also about hope, transformation, and what a few determined people can do to help save one little corner of the world.
